Good morning,
In a few months, I will be moving to a new state and therefore looking for a new apartment. I won't have a job yet, but my partner will have worked in one for several months in that state and we will have savings built up to the tune of a few thousand at least.
My question is, how much does credit score and history play a part in an apartment application? Our credit isn't stellar, as we've made some mistakes in the past, his with student loan payments (he is paying and his account status is current) and mine with a very small credit card that I let get away (I let it get into derogatory status, but have since made it current and can pay it down fairly quickly before the apartment app.)
We also have excellent rental history, no evictions and only missed the rent deadline by a few hours, paid the late fee and full rent immediately (only happened twice.) We've lived in this apartment for 3.5 years now.
I also have a car payment that I never miss that I've been paying for three years now and one from a few years ago that was also never late and is paid off.
Any additional advice is much appreciated.
