After a long time browsing, I felt it was about time to contribute something of value to the community.
Bottom line up front - I am acquiring 14 pairs of ExOfficio’s underwear and will only hang dry and hand wash each pair in cold water over the next two years. I will label each pair and track the number of washes each one gets. I am going to test the Give-N-Go Flyless Briefs as my experience with a trial pair of those has been much better than the boxer briefs (provides better support, less discomfort and bunching up around the thighs).
I have been a wearer of ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Briefs for the last 8 years. My experience with them may be summarized as mixed with an observation that there has been a noticeable decline in quality over the entire duration of my time as ExOfficio’s customer.
In full disclosure, I would be kidding myself and also lying to the community if I said that I have cared for them by only hand washing and hang drying each pair. It is also worth noting that I have moved around a lot during this time, and as a result the industrial driers that I would use from apartment to apartment may have been tougher on the later pairs that I purchased. E.g., the pairs that I wore five years ago through Navy OCS (bootcamp) and getting ground into the dirt by Marines are still holding up strong while the ones I got just a year ago are already failing.
The underwear feels great for the most part, but if my account and the anecdotes of others is to be taken seriously, I can sum up the issues that I have with the product in three main points:
1) the elastic waistband fails at a noticeably higher rate than older runs of the same underwear
2) the fabric quality decreased leading to more piling and the shorts bunching up in the thigh area
3) customer support has ignored my emails in regard to the quality of their products
The test begins this Thursday, July 12. The intent behind this is to provide objective and quantifiable information to the /r/buyitforlife community.
