I've been living as cheap as possible. I drive a cheap mid 2000's japanese beater car. Its got a poor rating for safety... Recently a coworker of mine got T boned in an intersection. She got hurt pretty bad. Also had a friend spin out last winter and get hit by a semi truck and died. Had another friend who died in a car wreck a few years ago. Then another friend who was in a car that flipped and got spine damage that can't be fixed.

The thing is my car is underwater by a couple of thousand. I don't make that much per year... I could afford a new car if I really needed it. I just put new tires on it a month ago too..

But... Here's the thing.. I keep seeing accident after accident everyday. I'm really starting to worry about my safety in my car if someone else hits me. Friend getting hurt and another dieng, is scary.

My car doesn't have ABS, doesn't have side airbags, doesn't have stability control.

I'm trying to justify that its ok to upgrade but I know I'll lose $1000's right off the bat.

But to get a car with stability control, ABS, airbags, collision avoidance, ect.

Should I get a newer car to potentially save my self from an future injury or death? Help me justify this or not.
