So I heard that thredUP used to have great payouts. People would get $50+ for a bag full of nice clothes. Their payments have decreased significantly. I sent them two bags... one bag I got $9.40 and the other bag I got $1.90. And they only accepted two items from my second bag. I can't really find any rhyme or reason why some items are accepted and others aren't. They also have a new "rejects" tab which means instead of "responsibly recycling unaccepted items" they are now just... going ahead and selling them without choosing to give the seller a cut of the profit?
I don't know. The whole thing is starting to rub me the wrong way. Their business model is basically paying people .25 cents for a shirt they're going to sell for $20. So I think my last bag I sent to them is going to be my last. I'd rather donate my clothes to those in need if I'm only going to get $1-$2 for the clothes anyway.
Anyway... I am wondering if there are any other online thrift stores that maybe have a higher payout per item? I don't have the time/patience to do something like poshmark where I have to sell all of my clothes individually. I like the bulk selling model and am willing to get a slightly lower payout for the convenience of doing it that way. ThredUp is just way too low of a payout. They should be giving us more like 25-30% of what they're planning on selling it for, not 3-5%
