I have had back issues since getting out of the army. I dealt with a herniated disc that made walking and sleeping very difficult for approximately 2 years but I was still able to finish my freshman and sophomore years of college and was eventually symptom free after physical therapy through the VA and conservative treatment.

Fast forward to now, currently in my last semester of college and I start having similar feelings of stabbing pain and I have a couple of sleepless nights all the while I am still going to school and clinical.

Out of desperation I contact a chiropractor to get an assessment done. (I usually don't believe in the benefits of chiropractic medicine but at the time I was in enough pain and had suffered enough sleepless nights to try anything,) Also I might add that I contacted the VA to get an appointment but was put out 2 weeks before I could see my primary care provider.

I visit the chiropractor, they take x-rays and say that I need to come back after they have reviewed my imaging.

I get "adjusted" and then put on spinal traction in my second visit.

I am in intense pain. I have stabbing pain in my hip, leg, and back. I can hardly walk out of the office I am in so much pain. I am visibly drenched in sweat and am leaning on chairs and tables to move. The chiropractor writes off my symptoms as just not getting my "sea legs" after the traction. While I am checking out he grabs a display back brace and puts it on me. I am in so much pain I don't even think about it. I get into my car and I can hardly drive home.

I spend that night on the floor writhing in pain. I eventually have to take FMLA leave from work and I drop out of my summer courses because I cannot attend clinical and thus would fail the course.

I then receive a bill from the chiropractor for $320 dollars for the back brace that was put on me. I contact the office and ask if I can just return it. She says she needs to ask the chiropractor and that I'll get a call back to discuss my options.

I am pretty furious but maintained my cool. I am currently waiting to receive a call from the "Dr".

My question is wether or not I financially obligated to pay for a brace that was put on me?

If anything I feel like I could pursue legal action against the office for the hardship I have endured due to the treatment given at the visit. (I would never do that unless I absolutely had to. I just don't want to pay the $320 dollars for a damn brace that was put on me)
