Our local community theatre sells tickets for $25 each but for 45 minutes of volunteering, you can get into the show for free. Volunteering is either ushering, working concessions, taking tickets, or working will-call. Very easy jobs! Larger non-community theatres offer this too.
In Dallas, the Dallas Summer Musicals and ATT Performing Arts Center both have volunteer programs. In Houston, the Hobby Center theatre has a program. These are just the theatres I knew by name to look up. They're also the theatres that bring in the national tours of Broadway shows and sell tickets for upwards of $100 sometimes. For 45 minutes to an hour of work, you could see Hamilton or Lion King or any other number of professional theatre show for free.
Many of them have a section on their website for volunteer information.
