Hey there, DIY'ers! My daughter wants a cat door in her bedroom door, so the cat doesn't sit outside her door and meow all night (then meow for hours to get back out). We're hesitant to cut a hole in the existing door - we'd like to be able to return the door to its original state when we move.I grabbed my trusty measuring tape and measured the door, then trekked to my local home improvement store... only to find that the measurements didn't match a single slab door that they sold.Turns out that the actual measurements used for pre-hung versus slab doors aren't the same, regardless of how they're sold. For instance, a 32 x 80 slab door will be exactly 32 x 80, whereas a 32 x 80 pre-hung door will be 31 5/8 x 79 3/4 (not necessarily those exact measurements - I can't remember what the exact measurements are, but they're similar to that).I'd obviously like to spend the $40 for a slab door, rather than the $175 for a pre-hung (just to discard or get rid of the door frame). The guy at the home improvement store wouldn't believe that they were different sizes until he pulled out a handful and measured them himself.Does anyone know if I'd be able to talk them into cutting the door down on that massive panel saw that they have? There are no fasteners (other than glue) that close to the edge, but I'm thinking they won't do it. I don't think I'd be able to set up a fence that wide on my table saw; I've just got a job-site sized saw, and I don't think it's that wide.Any advice? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2HDtkpN
