Hi All,

Two months ago my parents home caught fire. It's toast (for lack of better words). For the last two months they have been living in a hotel room (paid by the insurance company). Total was $160/night ($4800/month). Long story short, my mom asked if they could move in and the insurance company would pay for them. Now, I'm 29 year old, I'm very happy not having roommates. She said I could probably get $3K a month for rent. I said no freaking way my house is worth $3K in rent. BUT, ask the insurance company what they thought and if they said yes, that I would consider it. Next day, mom calls and says the insurance company would do it (saves them $1800/month). So I think about it and go forward. I create a generic lease, send it to my parents, they sign it, and now they are living with me. It's been 4 days so far. Tonight my dad says he thinks I should pay them $500 of this $3K because $3K is a lot and they are "getting hit with out of pocket expenses". I don't know what expenses they have because insurance is paying for everything. I tell him he should have brought this to my attention before we signed a lease because the only reason I decided to do it was because it was an outrageous number in the first place. On a side note, I'm taking every dollar and paying off student debt (only $11K left to go), plus $3600 in credit cards. Half of me thinks I should pay him the $500, and the other half says he should have brought this up before the lease was signed. Should I pay him $500/month or not. Please help.
