Preface: I'm remodeling my living room (floor plan), tearing out rather minimal drywall in the process, to relocate my fireplace to the center of the room and mount my TV flush against the wall above. Part of making the living look nice is going to be moving all of the previously exposed electronics to the nearby closet. I use a modem connected to a coax cable to power internet in my home (and do not own cable service). In order to move my electronics into the closet I need to have a coax cable present in the closet. The closest one I see is the one left behind in the TV area. This cable goes up behind drywall and into the ceiling somewhere and I fear I can't follow it back to its source to remove and replace with a longer cable. I have a few ideas and was wondering if someone could help flush out stupid ideas.I could attach an "f barrel" to the cable behind the drywall to connect a secondary coax cable to keep the length going. I can extend that second cable into the crawlspace and into the closet. Holes already exist from the previous owner to get into the crawlspace and into the closet. (they routed an ethernet cable)keep the coax where it's at, and attach it to a wall plate behind the TV. Add a second coax cable that goes from the TV area to the closet and figure out how to bridge those connectors behind the TV (outside of drywall) to provide power to the closet for my modem. I don't know how I can do this cleanly.Figure out how to add an additional coax to the outside of my house, get it into the crawlspace, and run it directly into the closet. No idea if this is even possible.I also worry about not having a coax connector behind the TV when I go to sell the house. However cable TV is a dying industry so maybe it won't even be relevant when the next people move in. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2xWIuXz
