Hi guys. I have this online gig that allows me to work from home, I was an expat before that currently staying with my family. I've traveled before and I'm aware of the digital nomad movement, tried it for a couple of weeks but is not something I want to do right now, maybe when the winter comes.
My home is in the countryside, I love that I can go for a walk in the forest at any time. However working all day inside home is not very appealing and I barely have social life around here, which drags down my creativity and motivation.
That being said I'm looking for ideas to turn this around and of course in last case I can always move in to the city.
-
Co-working space; there is one in town but I need to commute, eat out, etc and that kind bugs me down; doable for a couple of times a week.
-
Outside office; I have some available space and could build an off the grid shelter (aka trailer, container, garden house, a van?), install solar panels and work from there, maybe even sleep in sometimes; providing also my own space; since I'm living with my parents thats bonus points;
-
Stay in, find a hobby to get out of the house during the weekends and save everything for my next travels.
-
Farming; I have thought about this option a lot and I believe I can make it work (doing a career change from computer science to something non screen oriented is on my goals) but however I'm not just ready yet. This route means I won't be able to travel long term and being a single male in my late twenties I don't want to give that up right now.
Building a mobile office is appealing to me as I could start doing road trips on the weekend without much planning. The problem is my budget and skills; a used trailer its relatively cheap and I would be up and running in no time however I would still be isolated; a rv is out of equation and the cargo vans I found have tons of mileage, the best I can find are minivans (those able to transport 5/8 people; I'm aware that involves no standing inside but stealth is a good trade).
TL;DR; Ex expat and "backpacker" working remote from the countryside in parents house. Looking for inspiration do deal with alternative housing solutions and social interaction before going "nomad" again.
