I’m a research scientist in a startup, my expertise is in chemistry/biology on surfaces and nanoscience. After 8 years in academia and a year in this startup, i’m stressed, bored with labs and disillusioned with research.
My main passion in life is meditation and my life’s goal is to deepen my practice and eventually go on to teach. I’m looking for a career change to something that would initially allow me significant time off every summer (say 2 months) to focus on my practise, or alternatively a job in which I could completely define my own hours and work when I needed the money.
Someone suggested learning to code (specifically python which would be useful with my science background) as it potentially could lead to a lot of well paid freelance work. I’m going to start a few courses to see if I like it but before I do I would like to ask if there any programmers out there who could confirm this? If so how best could I go about making this shift?
Many Thanks!
