I have Retinitis Pigmentosa- you gradually lose peripheral vision and end up with tunnel vision. My maternal grandmother had it and since it's genetic, mine will run its course similar to her's. She had to stop driving around age 40-45 after hitting a parked car.
How does disability work? Do you buy the disability insurance and then one day if you become disabled you have some money? Who decides and how do they decide you are disabled?
I'm a teacher and will work as long as I can however I can do it, but just wondering about the disability thing. What happens if I don't last until 55 or 65, when I could retire with the state pension? (I live in TN and apparently it's a good state for getting a pension or something like that).
TL;DR- I'm a 28 y/o teacher and I'll be legally blind in ~15 years. What do I need to know and/or do?
