Hi everyone,
So I'm planning to quit the Internet (OK, not entirely, but I'll be quitting all social media and not browsing other than for work stuff and things like that). The thing is, I worry that I'll end up missing out on stuff that I actually DO want to know about and DO consider worth my time. When I say this, I'm referring mostly to stuff artists and creators whose work I enjoy and admire might be releasing. As an example, one of my favourite comedians, Bo Burnham, is releasing a movie next month, and I certainly wouldn't know about if it wasn't because I follow him on social media, so if I quit the Internet, there'll be no way for me to know about this kind of stuff.
I know the answer would seem really obvious, just following these people and that's all, but that's pretty much what I've already been trying to do, and I honestly consider it a "dangerous" habit for me to use social media even if it's only to follow these people whose art I actually care about, since it's too easy for me to get distracted and ending up checking other time-wasting stuff (so like, I use Twitter to get news for their releases and whatnot, and quite frequently I end up checking trending topics or other users' tweets that I don't really care about). I just think these kind of distractions are inherent to social media and the Internet in general, and that's basically why I've decided to quit.
So yeah, any ideas or advice on how to keep up with artists' newest work after quitting the Internet? Thanks a lot.
