Hi! I'm hoping some of you can provide some insight--my lease is up in August and I'll have to put in my 60-day notice later this month if I decide to move. I keep reading that rents are highest in the summer, especially in August, so I'm weighing extending my lease another 6 months so I can resume apartment hunting in winter when rents are cheaper.
Here's my conundrum though--my rent is cheap because I've done 13-month leases. If I want to do a 6-month lease at my current place, to delay the apartment hunt until rents are cheaper elsewhere, it's quite expensive monthly.
I keep reading that winter rents are cheaper, but my question is, how much cheaper? I don't want to spend an extra 15% for a 6 month renewal here, just to save an average of 3% come winter, for instance. I'll just bite the bullet and move now. But if I'd be spending that extra 15% to save 15% I'm totally game. What have you guys found?
For reference, I live in an east coast metro area. I pay $850 now in the suburbs, and am looking to pay about $1100-$1200 to move to the city centre. Most of what I've found is in the $1200-$1500 range currently. Thanks!
