Right now I pay $1600 a month in rent for a 2 bedroom 1000 sq ft condo in a nice neighborhood (Odenton, MD). I make $80k a year. This rent amount is too high. I wanted to live in a not so nice area where a condo rental for the same size would be $1000 or $1100 (Glen Burnie) and possibly nicer. If i decided to live in the straight up ghetto, I could get a place for $800 or $900 a month (Baltimore City).
My family ultimately talked me into renting this place. My lease is up in January. My landlord is awesome and a super chill guy so I will miss him if i move but will not miss paying extra.
I don’t want to deal with break-ins, carjackings and the like, especially since I have cats that could be hurt badly in a break-in. Plus I’m very territorial, having my stuff taken, even if it’s covered by insurance, would upend my life.
At the same time, I am a homebody who rarely hangs out outside so I’m not sure realistically how much of a problem this would be if I have common sense and do the basic stuff like not having a back glass porch which could be easily broken into, or a weak front door frame.
Also roommates. I do not have a roommate. I do not think a roommate would be a good idea. I’m on the autism spectrum and am just weird. I need my space to be weird. My home is the only place I can fully relax and be myself. Having a roommate would be stressful.
I could probably go down to a 1 bedroom. I mainly use my second bedroom for storage and for foster cats.
