I’m in the process of applying for an Officer program in the Coast Guard, got all my paperwork for the application and got an 89 on the ASVAB. Then I get a call from my recruiter telling me that I have an outstanding balance in under my credit and my application won’t even be considered.
After calling the collection agency and talking to my insurance and getting my hospital records it turns out that back in 2015 when I had a bicycle accident the hospital filed two bills, one under themselves and one under one of the doctors who treated me.
The hospital bill which was around $5000 was covered by my health insurance but the second bill filed under the Doctor wasn’t covered by my health insurance because they mistakenly marked it as a motor vehicle accident rather than a bicycle accident.
After two days straight of calling multiple people: My health insurance says they can’t do anything until the Doctor fixes or makes a new claim, the Doctor says that the claim was made by West Kendall Baptist Hospital and he can’t do anything, the hospital says that they can’t do anything since it has been 3 years and the collection says they can’t do anything since it’s the information they received.
Over the past 3 years, I haven’t received a single email or letter from West Kendall Baptist Hospital or the collection agency.
I have filed a dispute with y but as I stated earlier no one wants to do anything. I have a copy of both bills on the same day as clear evidence of their mistake.
I spent months getting the documentation together, got my medical examination and background check, studied and got an 89 and 126 GT and now my application won’t even be considered because West Kendall Baptists Hospital won’t fix a wording mistake.
TLDR: The hospital made a mistake with my hospital bill 3 years ago so it wasn’t covered by my health insurance. Everyone refuses to do their job to fix the problem and now the Coast Guard program which I’ve been preparing my application for months to won't even consider me.
