I live in Boston and have rented cars consistently for the past 4 years. They're always around $35-40 a day for an economy/sedan before taxes and insurance. They're now over $100 a day before taxes and insurance. I checked all the way out to November to see if this had anything to do with "summer" availability but I never had this problem any other summer.
I also checked smaller cities in the Northeast and the prices are higher than they've ever been. Has something happened? Gas prices shouldn't come into play since you pay the gas on your own....any thoughts? Luckily my boyfriend has a car, so I don't have to rent one often but damn...that'll be like ~$170 for a ONE DAY RENTAL with insurance.
