Hey everyone,
TL;DR - have some sweatshirts I really like, but don't trust my washer to not be harsh on them. Are professional drycleaners a good option?
Throughout the years I've made some great purchases of high(er) end clothing through /r/frugalmalefashion. My favorite pieces are my Reigning Champ clothes, both outerwear and sweatshirts.
My washer is getting older and I don't think it's as gentle as it once was, but I don't want to spend the money on a new one just yet. I'm fine washing underwear, undershirts, and casual shirts, but I'm apprehensive about washing my $200 and $145 (MSRP!!!) sweatshirts because I don't want them to become misshapen, shrink, fade, or be tossed around harshly by my current washer.
Are drycleaning services a better option? I've only ever used them for cleaning and pressing dress shirts, but never sweatshirts. If I take in my more expensive sweatshirts and tell them "I want these washed gently and I don't want them to shrink or become misshapen..." is this a safe bet? Do I have to be more specific, like "I want them washed cold and I don't want them dried in high heat"? Is this a good bet or is this risky? Are drycleaning services generally a good idea if I want to drop off some expensive clothing, have them washed and dried, and not get them back misshapen, shrank, or faded, or because they have so many pieces do they really not care?
Thanks for reading and for any insight -- I want to make sure it's the right call or else I'll start thinking about a new washer.
