UPDATE: Lynx, one of the bigger EU brokers (introducing broker for Interactive Brokers) just released an update saying they were aware of the regulation but the national regulator (Czech National Bank) was of the opinion that the EU regulation does not limit trading of US ETFs.
Conclusion: The broker is working with the national regulator to appeal the decision to suspend trading of US ETFs.
Based on EU regulation (some info here: https://ibkr.info//article/2993 ) Interactive Brokers has followed Degiro and disabled buying US ETFs in the past few days. (so far Vanguard wasn't offering US ETFs in the EU actively but they were still tradable through IB, etc.)
My current portfolio had equal shares of VT, IGEB, VNQI, XAR and XLK
My question is what ETFs do you recommend now (maybe we could start a list of US/EU alternatives?) and what currency to have the lowest impact on total earnings
Here are some tickers listed by LYNX (introducing broker for IB in some EU countries) as possible alternatives:
SPY5 - alternative for SPY us stock index, traded in USD, EUR, GBP, CHF
IUIT - alternative for QQQ us technology index, traded in EUR, GBP, USD
EMIM - emerging markets ETF, traded in EUR, GBP, USDCSBGU3 - short term US bonds (1-3 years, traded in USD
All of those are also tradable with Degiro, but not sure if they offer all the curencies, just may be helpful to some people who do not want to pay the minimum monthly fee with IB.
