Hi all. I'm fairly new to the frugal life. I recently moved into a newer home after living in older, moldy places my whole life. The house came with an HRV air exchange system.

There is a dial in my hallway for the system, and the dial allows me to either turn the system completely off, or run it within a 'comfort zone' which reads from 60% on one end to 30% on the other. What those percentages mean, I have no idea -- I'm assuming something to do with relative humidity?

I live in a fairly cool/wet climate, off the North east coast of Canada. Summer is coming but right now we are geting a lot of rain and cool temperatures. Summer will bring some sun but still mostly rain, with 15-20C (59-68F) being our average temperature.

With all that said, what is the best way to run this thing in a way that saves us money and wards off mold? It's been running on the 60% setting all day and all night since we moved in last month and I'm dreading seeing our power bill.

Can anyone advise on what to do? Should I just turn it off when the weather gets warmer and open the windows instead? What about the winter?
