Hi Everyone,
So a couple days ago, I was driving my friend's car and rear-ended someone. We are thinking about settling this out of insurance (the person I rear-ended is okay with it and I will pay for the damages to his car).
My friend and I went to get a quote from a collision center for his car and they said it would cost about $5-$6K to fix the damage. He drives a 2010 Honda Civic which, according to KBB, is worth about $6-9K.
Now, I'm not covered under his insurance and, because he bought a low-priced car, his coverage doesn't cover anything related to his car. In other words, if he gets into an accident where he's at fault, he has to pay for his damages and the insurance company can pay for the other person. My insurance has full coverage for me. I'm not sure if it covers me driving any car or if it just covers me driving my own car.
Since the repair cost is almost as much as my friend's car, we figured I can just pay $6K towards him getting a new car as his car would probably be deemed a total loss.
My question is, do we have any other options or is me paying $6K towards the new car the only way to go?
