Was at the super market looking at chicken and saw that a whole chicken was cheapest. I am very comfortable cutting up meat, but I've always bought chicken by the cut: when I want breast, I buy breast, and when i want wings, i buy wings. After cutting up the smallish 4.5 pound chicken, I realize how much more I am getting. Two good size chicken breast, a big plate of various dark meat (thighs, drumsticks, wings), used the carcass for soup stock and threw much of the skin and fat away. The bonus is that the meat is clearly fresher, i suppose pre-cut meat is exposed to air and germs when it is handled at the supermarket, the meat itself is in way better condition when the chicken is whole. Why didn't i do this before?

tl;dr Broke down a whole chicken instead of buying parts. So much cheaper.
