Hey Gang, as it says in the title I have a very strong Animal urine odor in my new house. I will give a bit of back story, I just purchased my first home, I went into it knowing I will need to do quite a bit of work, such as cleaning, major appliance replacement, and painting, ect. This house was previously a rental and it seems like the previous occupants were cat hoarders...In the basement there was a large pile of cat feces, some smaller droppings on basement shelving, and a few other smaller piles in the top floor bedroom closets. So far I have removed all found piles of feces, ripped up all carpeting and padding, blotted up large stains found on sub-floors and the hardwood flooring, washed the walls in preparation for painting scrubbed the basement floors with tsp, washed with hot water, and sprayed areas with Odorcide (a product that I read about in some other posts, so far its worked great). I plan on using B-I-N Primer for painting the walls and the sub-floor in the upstairs bedroom before putting down new carpet; as well as putting down new self leveling cement in the basement laundry area followed by an epoxy coat and finished with tile. The basement laundry area is where the main pile of feces was found so I guess I want to go kinda overboard in terms of covering that area up. My main question is, what am I not doing in order to get the majority of the smells out of the hardwood flooring, I am a little hesitant to sand and refinish the floors, but if that is my only option...so be it. Any other ideas in terms of smell abatement would be greatly appreciated. I am waiting until the last possible moment to move in so my stuff doesn't smell like a cat box.... via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2ykAtvJ
