I have never posted here before, I looked through previous posts and this seems like the right place to ask for advice on my current dilemma.
Just a little backstory: I’m 16, going into my Senior year. The day before prom I found out I was going to have to leave my childhood home because the landlord is selling all of her properties. We found a place, it just took some patience and time. The deposit is high, and the rent is a bit higher. My mom hasn’t paid either yet, because we are still waiting on them to finish the place up. Living with my mom, and two sisters, one is 14, the other is 24( very much unemployed).
The problems that arise are that we were making it as it was, but not enough if you ask me. My mom is terrible at saving money, and my sister would make my mom drive her to school which ended up burning lots of gas. I luckily saved 1k before I quit my job, to finish up prom planning with Student Council. I gave her gas money, usually at the end of the two weeks before she got paid again. I payed for groceries sometimes and I do now more than before since school is out. I paid for all my prom things so I was down to 300. I spent some here and there, but nothing drastic. I’m down to $100, still paying for gas sometimes, and groceries.
My 24 year old sister has done nothing so far. No job, no drive to do anything but sit on the couch and hog up the WiFi. Every time my mom suggests something she can do as a job, she turns it down with a stink attitude. My mom won’t kick her out, don’t know why. It pisses me off that my mom has to do so much to get the money to support us through this move. She says she is going to get a second job, but things may not work out the way she they will. She’s been saying she will get a second job since I started middle school. I feel like now she doesn’t really have a choice. I don’t know what she’s doing, but she says after the move she will be actively looking. I don’t want to burden her with my expenses, so ......
I need money to: 1. Buy a car ($1000-1500) I’ve been browsing already, that’s an accurate amount for something reliable. I will be moving 2 miles away from the school, and I’ve got to sometimes pick my sister up from her school.
-
Get school clothes ( $300-500) I’ve learned how to shop and get more out of my money.
-
Extra Money ( $100-500) For Gas, and if anything goes wrong.
I’ve already got a job at a place that just opened up. I start in two weeks, but with that money I’ll barely make it to buy a car if I max out my hours every week. They have some rule where if you are under 18, can only work 6 hours. Break included. ( I used to work 10 hours without a break and no limit on how many hours.) I make $8.50 an hour. I’d go look for a better opportunity, but this took me long enough, every place that I want a part time job at is full for some odd reason. I’ll make it close, if things go according to plan, but I’m not willing to put all my eggs in one basket. I’ve already skipped out on a week long Leadership Conference in Reno to make sure I get everything together for the move, and for my family. I don’t want this time period to be wasted because I fell short a few hundred. I just want some accurate/ realistic suggestions on what I should do to get the rest of the money I need to make things some what stable again. Thank you all in advance!
TL;DR : 16 years old and need to make $300-500 over the summer in addition to working, any reasonable suggestions are helpful!
