PF, I have a bad addiction.

Cigarettes and Monster energy drinks. I smoke a pack a day at $6.27/pack and drink between 2-4 Monster imports a day at $3.40 per can. That is $20 a day. Every day. Without fail. While this certainly isn't breaking the bank, I'd like to reduce this or cut it out completely.

I've seen several blog posts and heard in several audio books about going cash only, envelope system, yadda yadda. My bills are all paid and all set to autodrafts on a rewards card. My savings is looking great, my 401K contribution is 14% of my pay and I am in a good spot. Still, I recognize a problem and I am working on a solution.

That said, I'm looking for insight from my favorite sub. I am going to go cash only for my day to day spending. I have a harder time seeing real money leave my wallet than swiping endlessly on a machine and I am going to test my willpower.

Do you have a weekly play money budget? If so, how did you come to your figure and how much do you actually spend per week on your 'wants' rather than your needs? Do you feel it's easier to stick to if you're spending only cash?
