Kitchen makeover https://ift.tt/2Kjoik3 I know alot of people hate seeing wood cabinets painted but after 11 years I just wanted a brighter room. The house is over 60 years old and has its flaws. The cabinets were to the point that they either needed refinishing or painted. The walls are all textured and the faux plastic brick backsplash isn't coming off without tearing the whole wall out. Believe me, I've tried! So I repainted the walls in a satin finish which helped hide the texture alot! I then sprayed all the cabinets with Krud Kutter prepaint spray and wiped them down. Next, I painted the upper cabinets with cabinet enamel paint that required no sanding. I continued with that paint onto the brick backsplash. The lower cabinets were painted a gray. I replaced all the brass hardware (forgot to take a before photo with the handles still on). I decided to accent with teal colors so found a light teal paint for the built in end shelf. Overall, it took me 3 straight days to handle prep, painting, reassembling, etc. My total cost was around $300 about equally split between paint, supplies, and new hardware. I've researched some ideas for updating the counters but think I'm just going to save up for some new ones. These are in decent shape but the peachiness really stands out now. I'm really pleased with the result and my kitchen now seems so bright and happy. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2If6Vo4
