Hi /r/Investing, So my girlfriend and her family have all their properties (My GF's flat, her sister's flat, the folks have 3 properties) in a trust.
Now I dont know why this is, but I've heard them give reasons like "it protects your assets", "The bank cant take away your home if you go bankrupt" and stuff like that. Recently my GF found out that there is a managing agent for the trust, if that makes sense, called Treoc.
I did a bit of research and it seems like they are a "investment club" where they get you into a trust and somehow show you how to buy up many properties and make 60% roi every year. And they say that by buying via a trust you can buy many more properties because it doesnt allocate that debt to you, but to the trust. Sounds too good to be true, and very scammy. And I've been told that my GF and her family are paying them to do the trust accounts etc.
Now I do not know much about trusts, or any of this. so please can anyone that knows anything about this kind of thing please enlighten me.
The Company: Treoc. https://www.treoc.com/
edit: I live in South Africa btw, if that changes anything.
