Hello all,

Up until recently I was working full-time for a guy who could only pay me sporadically, despite me being 'on salary.' Technically I was a contractor, so I was filing as a sole proprietor every year I worked for him. I could pick up freelance gigs pretty easily and did those on the side. The last two years weren't too shabby. Then I quit to start my own business in October 2017.

I didn't file my return in 2016, so I got with a professional and got it handled last month, resulting in a $25k tax bill for 2016-2017 on top of the current balance for which I'm already making payments. I can't stress this enough, with the low income I'm getting as a startup and the interest payments, I will barely scratch the surface of the principal very month and it will drain me.

Does anyone have any experience with these tax relief services/companies/specialists? I called one a few days ago and hung up, getting the weird feeling that it was on the same level as a payday loan or another kind of mostly-legal scam.

Just want to make sure I'm clear on my options and the likelihood of success before I dedicate the time and energy to working with them.
