I recently bought a house and finished my first project! I ripped out the carpet covering the main level (two bedrooms, a hallway, and the living/dining rooms space ~675 sqft) and refinished the hardwood floors underneath. Thought you guys might like to see how they turned out and learn from my mistakes.Highlights:- It's worth it to get a drum sander.- Hardening oil finishes are a magical alternative to polyurethanes.- It will take much longer than you think it will.MVPs:- Staple puller- Crowbar (Sorry, no link for this one - I found it in the basement left behind by the previous owners. It was rusty but just the right size for ripping out tack strips.)- Knee Pads - I bought these because they were cheap, but they worked and were a big step up from crawling around without them.- Pete's Hardwood Floors was the single most helpful online resource I consulted while I (obsessively) researched this project - I came back to them at every step. Here's the albumThanks for reading! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2wh9uAv
