Ok so heres the totally hypothetical not at all real scenario.
If I work at company A and my boss tells me that his boss has been contacted by large financially troubled public company B and offered a major position in charge of the area of financial distress. If he takes the job he will probably take my boss who would probably take me. I really really believe in both these guys to no end and wouldnt leave my current company unless it was to work for these guys.
Is it insider trading if I invested in said company when I know he has made his decision since technically no one from the company itself disseminated the information out? If that is insider trading at what point can I legally take a position? When he officially accepts the position, or when the position is publicly announced?
Side note company B could not be farther away from company As industry if you are trying to sleuth this :).
