Today, I found out my credit card was skimmed.
I have push notifications sent to my phone every time I make a purchase. Yes, it can be annoying for the small purchases, but today it alerted me to the fact that my card information had been stolen.
I was in a meeting at work today when I got a push notification saying I'd just made a purchase at Starbucks for $100. Obviously, this wasn't the case because I was sitting in a conference room. I stepped out, made a call to my credit card company and they swiftly locked the card and marked the transaction as fraud.
Because I typically do my grocery shopping at the beginning of the week, pack my lunches, and cook dinner at home, I likely wouldn't have bought anything for a few days, giving me no reason to check my account records. If I didn't have the notifications, I probably wouldn't have noticed the transaction until the end of the week, when I typically review my accounts and upcoming bills.
If your card/banking app has this feature available, I urge you to turn it on! It could prevent a bad situation from getting worse!
