I'm planning on putting in a paver patio in a couple of weekends and I've been watching videos and what I thought was going to be fairly simple I'm not sure what to use now.It will be 10'x16' I am in Southern Maine so winter is an issue. I do not know much about my soil yet. What is really the best method to prepare my base?Do I need to rent a compaction machine.What base material should I use?Is sand ok or should I use polymer sand?How deep do I need to go/how much material do I need to buy?I was going to just dig down bit, put weed prevention tarp down, some base, sand, and then fill with sand, but it's a lot more complicated and controversial than I thought!
