r/frugal, I beseech you once again....
Over the course of the last five years, I have paid off maybe $11k of credit card debt. As a grad student on a pretty basic income, that was pretty freaking tough, but it's done now. After paying off the debt, I realized that there were still small expenses that I should still be paying with a credit card, then paying that off at the end of the month or earlier. Examples include online purchases at non-trusted merchants, paying for gas, etc. Occasionally I do use the card when I eat at a restaurant or bar, especially if I'm out of town, not exactly frugal I know.
Anyway, I wanted to see if I can be frugal/wise and get some kind of rewards or extra benefit for those purchases which I still should be making with my credit card, or purchases I already make with my debit card like groceries , but **not** like the r/churning life and doing accounting/debt shifting shenanigans or making excess purchases to jump hoops to meet bonuses/incentives. Would getting a credit card with a small annual fee be too much? #1 thing is that I realize that using a credit card is like playing with fire, it can be useful and done safely but it can go south. I cannot get back into CC debt like that ever again. But I wouldn't mind getting some money back at the end of the day, or taking a nice vacation down the line.
Thanks.
