I want to start investing and I am based in the UK. I was just wondering how exactly tax laws apply to capital gains and dividends - This might sound very stupid but I remember hearing somewhere that the first £10k of gains are not taxed...is this correct? Also, I know Robinhood is a very good app for actually investing in stocks (not CFDs), but that's only in the US. What apps/websites would you recommend for investing in the UK? (Not interested in platforms like eToro where you invest in CFDs, I am interested in actually owning the stock). Thanks a lot.
