I've never considered myself a frugal person but when I think about it I've created some very frugal gifts over the years. I've written a lot of poetry and then made my own displays for them.

I've also made the odd gift by hand. Below is a special birthday present I made for my wife last year. The wood is part of a pallet that I sanded and varnished. The hands (our three daughters) were moulded using home-made paydoh and poly filler from poundland, I then painted them with black paint and lightly brushed them with silver acrylic. The ribbon and bow were a few pence each and the tag is just card cut and hand-written on. All in all I think this cost about £1.50 to make.

My wife absolutely loved it!
