So my wife and I (27F/28M) are finally moving out of my parents place. We were originally going have down-payment (20%) for a house (NJ) but now will end up renting because of a promotion to a nearby state. We have between us about 100K in savings with another 100K in retirement investments. We have no debt except for the regular expenses like car insurance, gas, etc.
We barely spend money and stay home on the weekends but now it feels such a big drastic lifestyle change since we're spending money left and right for the apartment. Vacuum cleaners, kitchenware, furniture, bathroom stuff, computer desk, etc. I've estimated it's going to cost us almost 4K (to get decent items) which makes me feel I'm losing control of our money. I feel the splurging is happening and me feeling a bit annoyed by it.
Should I just cheap out and go to Walmart to buy everything? (which even then still may be about 1-2K) I've already had my asian parents berating me for spending 180$ on a Dyson vacuum cleaner and 85$ on a simplehuman trash can but I feel if I cheap out on a walmart brand I'll end up spending more time/money to buy it again. Anyone have any advice?
