I'm replacing some rotted steps at my back door. I've already cut the ledger, stringers, treads and kickboards for the replacement. When I removed the rotted steps I realised they weren't installed properly to begin with but that's not the issue.I want to do this right the first time and actually cut out the vinyl siding and install the flashing, J channels and undersills properly along with the ledger board. BUT the hard part is, most of the internet is explaining how to install the ledger board against the open side of a house. I need install this ledger board under my back door and the flashing, and undersills part isn't entirely making sense to me since there isn't room for 3" flanges on the flashing. Let's say there's room for 1" of flange that I would be able to fit (if it can even be bought like that), do I use concrete nails to hold it against the foundation? Also, since I've never done this before (I've been researching for weeks), I'd like to know how many lag bolts I'll need to hang the ledger board. The ledger is a 4' 2x12. There's just the 3 steps that don't weigh much but I'm considering 6 bolts. Overkill? Thanks in advance, any and all help will be greatly appreciated. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2sh0s1T
