So I recently purchased an old 1950s house. I was going to have a contractor do some work on the house in the addition part and was told I should have the wall (it's drywall) tested for asbestos before I rip out the wall. I found out it's got asbestos (2%) in the joint compound, thankfully only in the later additions to the house, so only two rooms total. So i've decided for now at least to leave it alone but part of the wall (about a 2x2 sq foot spot) is cracked and if you press it slightly you can hear it cracking and crumbling. What's the best way to take care of this? Removing the whole room's walls with an abatement contractor is out of the budget for now but it'll probably what I end up doing in a year or so. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2Grd6iZ
