I like to scan through posts from this sub whenever I see them pop up on my front page. Just to get an idea of how people handle their finances. What I've come to learn is the majority of success and tips are coming from people who make a hell of a lot more than some of us. Everyone talks about how important a good savings account is, but for those of us on a hard budget, it is impossible. For example; I make about 24k a year as a veterinary technician. I am currently back in school finishing up a degree (being paid for by someone else, I'm lucky as hell). With rent, car payment, auto insurance (cannot afford health insurance, even through my company), credit cards, etc, I am lucky if I have anything left at the end of the month. When I do, I put it into savings, but it only takes one unexpected event to force me to drain my savings (which has never exceeded $250). Despite budgeting, cutting out all luxury items, never eating out, etc, it feels impossible to make a dent in my debt, much less save for the future. What can people like me do to make debt/living more manageable and prepare for the future?
