Go to a used office furniture store, they're in most cities. While not the prettiest stuff, it is all extremely robust because it is commercial grade. Consumer furniture (I'm looking at you IKEA, but you're just the low hanging fruit) is absolute garbage, designed to lost long enough for you to post a picture on IG.
You can find tables, desks, chairs, shelving, stand-alone cabinets, even couches. The prices are still about what you might pay for mid-grade consumer gear but it will take a lot of abuse and is easy to maintain. I have a "kitchen table" that used to be in someone's meeting room and a bunch of other stuff. I love it =) don't think if I was married i could get away with it though.
