This is the table: https://www.cb2.com/aqua-virgo-burl-dining-table/s232578

It looks beautiful, and I want to buy it. But they describe its construction like this:

  • Top: Engineered wood with hi-gloss burl veneer
  • Legs: Solid rubberwood with hi-gloss burl veneer
  • Apron: Solid poplar with hi-gloss burl veneer

This doesn't sound good to me, but I know nothing about furniture construction, so I don't know how much I should worry. Engineered wood I've gathered is basically particle board - but how serious a problem is this given that the legs and whatever the "apron" is are made out of solid wood? That said, is it weird that these three pieces are all constructed from different materials?

Let me know if I'd be getting ripped off here, and if any of you have recommendations for BIFL furniture that I should consider instead, please share!

Edit: Additional relevant info: I'm based in NYC and my budget is ~$700
