Hello,
Building one myself is not an option, as I have ZERO experience building things, no tools, limited time, and nowhere I could use as a work area. I also do not know anyone that could help either.
I am willing to pay money for a good bed.
I am looking for a bed frame that meets these requirements:
-
High quality
-
Queen size
-
Sturdy
-
Silent
-
No protruding edges - frame should be same size as standard Queen mattress
-
Does not require foundation or box spring
-
With headboard
-
No footboard or posts
Optional huge advantages:
-
Good height for storage space underneath (but not "built-in" storage)
-
Ideally as minimalistic/modern as possible (not an antique-style giant wooden "tank")
-
Low VOCs
Looking at many beds, both at retail stores and Amazon - they all either do not meet the first requirements at all in their design or they have major quality issues that result in fragile and/or noisy beds.
My ideal bed is probably a much higher quality version of this (with a headboard):

Can anyone provide me any leads? Would be much appreciated!
Room & Board Rant - Can Skip
I originally tried a Room & Board steel bed, since I saw a couple of Reddit posts where several people recommended their beds as sturdy/silent. But I suspect R&B might have a few shills on reddit, because although the outer frame may be sturdy, there is no way in hell that can be said of the slat construction. The materials used in their beds may be good, but the overall design of their beds are very poor, valuing form at the complete expense of function.
The steel slats are not secured onto the frame. The slats lay on top of the inside frame edges, with a large oval "cutout" on each slat that is placed over a non-removeable screw sticking out of the frame. So if the metal slat moves at all, it hits the metal screw and makes a "clang" noise. The steel slats are also hollow, making the sound even louder than it has to be. I weigh less than 140lbs and I tried just very lightly bouncing on the bed (not aggressive movements nor anything crazy like standing up either), and the slats were making NOT quiet clanging sounds.
The slats were already few enough that the spacing in-between was warranty-voiding for most modern mattresses, but not even secured to be quiet? Outrageous for an $800 (plus $100 delivery) bed frame. Before returning it, I checked with their customer service to see if there was anything easy I could do to fix the noise or anything they could do - and was told that is just the design of the slats. No problems with free return (they picked-up), but was not refunded the original $100 delivery.
End Rant
