I'm trying to find a new car, I have very few sticking points. I want a hatchback thats reliable with decent gas mileage. Ideally my budget is right around $5000. So far i'm not finding much, Honda and Toyota are immediately out at this price. Anything of recent years is very high mileage and I'm seeing almost nothing below $10,000. I looked at a ford fiesta yesterday with 70k for $5300, but the clutch felt very suspicious and I have a hunch its going out. Thats a $1500 repair right there so seems too risky. Is it realistic to get a reliable hatchback for $5000? Or do I just need to give up until I have more money to spend on something?
