Hi everyone,I recently bought a house. One of the DIY things I want to do is replace all the light switches to rocker style and all the outlets since they have yellowed over the years. The problem I have now is determining 15-amp vs 20-amps. I am a complete noob at this and my knowledge is only based on things I have read on google. The things I know to be true are below.Outlets with the horizontal line are automatically 20-amps20-amp receptacles/switches can be used on a 15-amp circuit/breaker??? (but NOT vice versa). The reason people don't freely use 20-amp receptacles/switches is because they are super expensive. The breaker "may" show how much amp it is14G wiring to be used on a 15amp receptacle/switch (while 12G wiring on a 20amp) but that seems to be not 100% true based on what I read so I'm not sure if I want to go this route to help me determine. So my questions are...Any other tips on determining amps for receptacles and switches? If worst comes to worst, would buying all 20-amp items be cheaper than hiring an electrician to determine for me which is 15amp and which is 20amp? I assume they would want to install it for me and such. This is a follow up to question #2. Any risks in using 20-amp items that I am unaware of? I haven't found anything on the web.Is it possible for a house to have only ALL 15 amp circuits/breakers and NO 20 amps? If not, which areas of the house would I expect to see 20 amps? I live in a 1800 sq foot house, so not that big.Thank you all for your time and help. Please let me know if I'm wrong on anything. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2IwrdFh
