I just graduated boot camp, so my girlfriend and I are both young, at 19. We'd been planning to move out for a while but lived in an expensive part of California, and she was schooling part time, which made it harder to save. However, I'm in the Navy's nuke program, which puts me in Charleston SC, which is much more affordable to both of us even without BAH. The tenuous plan we have is that while I live on base, I'll be helping her pay her rent and go through school, while living at her place during weekend liberties. Her step mother suggested her buying some furniture and basic apartment necessities before hand to make the move easier, which she's done. She plans on renting a POD and bringing the POD with her car across country and moving about a week after flying out to visit and look at apartments. But what exactly is a good way to go about budgeting this? I have a good amount saved up right now, and will have a good bit more before she even visits, but I've struggled to create a financial/budgetary plan for flying her out, weekend trip expenses, and then the actual moving expenses after that. What are some tips, strategies or programs the more experienced movers have used before? Thank you in advance
