So this happened last night. I asked my mom to help me with taxes by finding my old 1040 form and telling me the AGI. This is my first year doing taxes on my own using TurboTax, usually my dad files my taxes for me MANUALLY. My dad is currently out of town, which is why I had to rely on my mom for information (yes, I know I know, I could have not procrastinated and waited till the night before it’s due).
She took a picture of the entire 1040 document and sent it to some random email address that she thought was mine. We have emailed before, constantly, so I have no idea how she didn’t know what my email was. She just typed in an address that she thought was mine and sent it. Tbh, I am kinda upset with her for not being more careful with such sensitive information!
Is there anything I can do now? Am I going to get identity-theived? Should I reach out to the person she accidentally emailed and ask them to please be kind and delete the email forever? I just started my “real” life and now I’m worried that I’ll have no future (sorry to be so melodramatic, lol).
