Hi all,

Long story short: stuff happened and I need shoulder surgery. Sucks right?

Well, thanks to my emergency fund I can keep the “sucks” to a minimum.

You see, all things considered Australia has a pretty decent public health care system. However, like any public health care system, it’s under strain. There are waiting lists, the quality of care is variable and you’ll never know whether the doctor you’re going to end up with is any good.

However, thanks to my emergency fund I am now able to privately choose and afford the best doctor, the best physio, the best hospital and the best equipment to help me get back to normal as soon and as strong as possible.

If it wasn’t for my emergency fund, I’d probably be on some waiting list, waiting to get assigned to a doctor who may or may not be any good, with a painful shoulder to boot.

Now I’m being tended to by a renowned professor who treats elite athletes, and I’ll get access to some advanced compression-cryo therapy equipment to help with my post-surgical rehab.

Emergency funds people. Do it. You don’t want to have to put a price on your health.
