So my boyfriend and I are looking to move into a 2 bedroom apartment with another one of our friends. We found a place for $1500. I have always gone with the method of splitting rent by the number of bedrooms. Then, split utilities by the number of people.

In the apartment we found, both bedrooms are equal. There really is no master. Both have a huge walk in closet and connected bath. Our friend wants us to split rent 3 ways, so $500 each. I don't think thats fair at all. Thats like saying 1 bedroom is worth $1000 and the other is worth $500. Why should the couple have to pay double for the exact same amount of space? If that was the case, everyone would severely benefit from living with a couple.

If she was to move into another 2 bedroom with 1 other person, it would be split in half, so what is the difference? I understand that a shared living space should come into play, but how should that work? The living space and kitchen are both pretty large. I tried to explain this to her but all she said was "its not fair that I would be paying $750 while you two pay $375 each"

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated!
