I am extremely active. I own a biotech and am on my feet all day running around. I do not, however, work in metal or construction or anything like that. So I don't have the safety toe.

I live in Colorado so I'm outdoors a lot, however, I do not wear them hiking. But still. They are exposed to rugged outdoors.

I'm also fat, so there's that, and I have a somewhat unusual gait.

I was disappointed. I thought for sure that I would at least get a year out of my 1st soles.

However, there are other qualities which Red Wings possess. They're extremely comfortable. Also, the leather is nice. That means it will last a long time, but for me means something else as well. Nice leather which has been treated extremely thoroughly, does not stink as back as other leathers do. You may think I'm joking, but Red Wings honestly solved my foot odor.

They help my back pain immensely, and I think they look great.

Mine still look okay. I think I treated them 3 times with mink oil since I bought them. I may want to do a little more, as the Colorado environment is dry.

So I am disappointed that their sole, for me at least, lasts about as long as a pair of Keens or Merrills. Which I used to buy every 6 months before switching to Red Wings.

But all in all, I have been extremely satisfied with my experience. So much so, that I left with my 2nd pair of 1907s today. I will be able to alternate pairs daily.

The quality and workmanship is obvious, they're worth every penny.

Speaking of pennies,

So now my thought is, if that sole lasted me 6 months, if I have 2 pairs and alternate them I should be able to get one year out of each boot if I alternate. The resole was $110.

So if I still need two resoles each year, one for each set, that's $220 a year.

I was spending ~$170 every 6 months on a new pair. So $340 each year.

So I'll save $120 each year on a $600 investment.

So as long as the leather lasts 5 years, and it is supposed to last forever, I will have an ROI. ...

Those of you who saw my first thread, sorry. Had a brainfart. I was born in 1990. I did not buy them then. Haha.
