Soon to be new homeowner here and I’m looking to install new 60A service to my garage for EVSE.
The problem is that my panel is on the other side of the house, so I’d have to jump up to the attic, run across the rafters, and drop a floor and a half down to the garage (split-level).
I’m a pretty handy guy, but I know it’s stupid to mess around when the safety of your home is involved, so I definitely want an electrician involved.
That being said, I’ve run CAT 5 a bunch of times and looking at YouTube tutorials, I think I could manage the majority of the run myself and have the electrician inspect my work and do the actual connection.
What I’m picturing is having the wire sticking out of the walls at both ends and letting the electrician hook it up. If necessary, have them approve my plans beforehand and inspect the run as well.
Have you had success with this kind of strategy?
TLDR: I don’t want to pay a guy $150/hr to snake wire down a wall.
